Bouma

Days three and four saw the team at Bouma District School. This is a large primary school, and the children and staff were keen to help our dental team get the most of their three days allocated to this school. This is seriously challenging work for our team, who arise incredibly early in the morning and don’t get home until dark. The road to Bouma is not world class, to put it mildly!

Bouma is famous for its waterfalls and hiking. A great video of Bouma Falls and national park HERE

DAY THREE: Bouma District School – Stories and pictures

By Paula Gonebeci

Here is a message from the head teacher Mrs Maria Biukoto of Bouma District School:

Resina & Vitalina Kasa. They are identical twin sisters who are both in Year 4. Aged 9 for both. Their Father is Eferemo Kasa, and their mother is Elenoa Kasa. They lived in Bouma. Historically their great grandfather was from the island of Yacata. The island floats across the distant ocean over the horizon from the village of Bouma. The special thing was they both had the exact same tooth filled on the lower fourth premolar.

Igenasio Cabealwa: of class 3. 8 years of age. Her parents’ names are Saliceni & Filomena Cabealawa of Korovou, Bouma. Igenasio is the second eldest of four children in his family. There are a total of three brothers and a sister. He had an incorrect tooth growing from the back of his front tooth. He was so excited that it had been removed.

If only all our patients were this good!

This informal photo is of many of the children at Bouma District School and our team of 4 dentists, a dental hygienist, and an administrator. It has been a remarkable experience for the dental team and for the children. Well done all!

To finish today’s stories, here are the school kids singing to the team their thanks!

Care: This is a very moving video!
